Does it really protect from the cold?

I am very cold and I would like to know if it really protects from the cold significantly more than a trilastic steamer or its equivalent in lycra rash t-shirt and pants

Outside of the water, the steamer is quite warm. The inside is like a thick fleece hoody, and it also traps your moisture/sweat. The fleece retains quite a bit of water when you get out of the water, and although you are not exposed to wind as such, you can feel the temperature drop quickly. I chose my size to be as tight at a wetsuit. The material is very elastic while much, much thicker than a rash guard. I would say a rash guard is nothing compared to this material. I do not recommend wearing this under a wetsuit, regardless of what the advertisement claims. The steamer is too much material. Wear a thicker wetsuit! It’s fine in a dry suit, but you do get a decent amount of your own moisture trapped in the fleece. In the water, it is similar to a wetsuit if you choose a size that gives a slim fit. I would say it is similar to a wetsuit in terms of warmth. Trilastic is more of a protection layer against touching stuff. This is for warmth.
